Terence Archibald was born in Durban, South Africa in 1952.

He showed an artistic flair at a young age and went on to complete formal training at art school in Johannesburg.
His fascination for anything that could creep, crawl and fly, developed into a fullblown passion for birds and wildlife, leading him to pursue a career “in the bush”.

He has worked in some of the pristine wilderness areas of South Africa, Botswana and Namibia where he has rubbed shoulders with big game in true African style.

The highlight of his wildlife career was a six year period in Etosha National Park in Namibia where he was actively involved in many bird projects. Terence ringed some 300 birds of prey, began a ringing project on Blue Cranes and conducted a detailed study on Pygmy Falcons. In addition, he published some of his work on Flamingoes breeding on the pan and the breeding biology of Chestnut Weavers.
Terence continues to be active in the field and considers the experience he gains to be invaluable in providing ideas for his paintings.

Scientific knowledge, familiarity with the subject, together with artistic skills, are what he believes essential to successful bird and wildlife illustration.
